In a commanding performance, the St Joseph girls' basketball team continued their undefeated run with a 59-44 victory against Fairfield Ludlowe. With this win, St Joseph solidified their impressive overall record at 15-0, maintaining a perfect 10-0 record in the FCIAC.

In the opening quarter, St Joseph asserted their dominance, outscoring Ludlowe 18-7. The team showcased exceptional teamwork and offensive prowess, setting the tone for the rest of the game. The scoring load was evenly distributed, with key contributions from Gigi Gracia, Grace Montelli, and Erin Lovett, who combined for 40 points. This balanced scoring highlighted the team's depth and versatility, making it challenging for Ludlowe to contain their offensive threats.

Defensively, St Joseph's efforts were crucial to their success, limiting Ludlowe's scoring opportunities. Erin Lovett's impactful performance included 11 rebounds, 3 steals, and 3 blocks, showcasing her influence on both ends of the court. Maggie Wetmore's contributions, securing 11 rebounds and 3 steals, played a significant role in St Joseph's dominance in the rebounding department. Grace Montelli's defensive prowess with 7 steals, coupled with 3 assists, further exemplified the team's commitment to excellence on both ends of the floor.

In the three-point shootout, Gigi Gracia showcased her long-range accuracy, sinking three three-pointers, while Ludlowe's Kate Cimador led her team in scoring with three successful shots from beyond the arc.

As St Joseph looks ahead to their next challenge, facing Trumbull on Friday, February 2, anticipation is high for the annual Pink Game Doubleheader. This event, including the boys' team, is expected to draw a standing-room-only crowd. The Trumbull vs. St Joseph matchup is a highlight on both communities' calendars at the beginning of the season. Basketball enthusiasts are encouraged to secure their tickets early for what promises to be an exhilarating clash of rivals. Beyond the court, the event serves as a charitable initiative benefiting a Trumbull family dealing with Pediatric Cancer through Make-A-Wish Connecticut and the Chelsea Cunha Scholarship Fund at Trumbull High. The St Joseph community eagerly awaits this exciting matchup and the opportunity to make a positive impact beyond the basketball court.
